Compatible Cartridges
Buying new toner cartridges can quickly become a costly exercise. There are
many companies in Australia that offer compatible products which are available
at considerable cost savings. To dispel a few myths, we have listed below a
few common questions and answers about the cost effective alternatives.
What exactly are these less expensive alternatives?
There are many types of cartridges that are available for your printers other
than the often expensive genuine import. The cheapest are "refilled" cartridges.
These cartridges are just refilled with toner and nothing else is replaced. Next
are the "remanufactured" or "recycled" cartridges, where the cartridge is refilled
and any imaging component found defective is replaced. Some parts may be used
for a second or third cycle because they are specially designed "aftermarket"
components capable of doing this without compromising on print quality. Lastly,
there is the "compatible" cartridge, which every component that contributes to
the quality of print is replaced. These cartridges sometimes contain recycled
parts such as the outer plastic shell to decrease the amount of rubbish going
into our landfills. Even Hewlett Packard and Canon do this and sell their cartridges
at a NEW price.
How much more inexpensive are these alternatives?
These cartridges can save your company around 10%-60%
compared to the imported genuine
Will my printers warranty be void if I use these cartridges?
No, the use of non-genuine toner and supplies will not void your printers warranty.
This is against Australian Trade Practices Act 1974 which states that the manufacturer
must honour the terms of their printer warranty unless they are able to prove
that printer damage has been caused by a factor outside their control. If this
factor is contributable to any product manufactured by Boomerang TCR, we will
promptly send our technicians FREE OF CHARGE to fix your printer. Please refer
to our "Toner Cartridge Guarantee".
Are all aftermarket consumables the same?

No! There are many small "back-yard" companies that do not have
same strict quality control as the larger, more reputable companies. They are
often inferior products that give the industry a bad name. Their defect rates
can often exceed 25% or more whereas our internal quality control procedures
ensure that we are one of the industry leaders in the supply of after market
consumables.
So, where should I begin?
The use of aftermarket consumables in your office equipment is an excellent
way to lower overhead costs. We believe that you should try before you buy an
aftermarket cartridge and we encourage you to take on a 30 day trial so that
you can experience the quality and cost effectiveness for yourself.
Paper Jams
Are you sick of those damn paper jams? You may need us to come out and give
your printer a good clean and service. Before you give us a call, here are a
few things to consider before you place a service call.
Have you opened your printer and looked for small pieces of paper that may
have torn off during operation?
When you remove that pesky paper jam, there may be a small piece of paper still
caught in your machine. When you remove the paper jam, make sure the entire
page is there.
When you get a paper jam, do you find the page still partly in the paper
tray?
If your printer hasnt been serviced in a while, your paper feed rollers can
become worn or dirty. This can lead to your paper slipping and causing a paper
jam.
Do you use labels in your machine?
Printing on labels can cause many problems in your machine and your cartridge.
If a label peels while still in the printer, it can leave glue throughout your
machine. Always make sure that no label edges have been lifted up and never
put half-used sheets of labels through your printer.
What type of paper or media are you using?
Different thicknesses of paper and specialty paper can often be the cause of
paper jams. To determine whether the paper is the cause of the problem, try
a new ream of normal 80 GSM paper and see if the printer still jams.
Product Yeilds
You can normal find the average life cycle of any consumable in the manufacturers
literature or in the machines user manual. There are a few things that can
dramatically affect this yield and give you the impression that the cartridge
is defective or ending prematurely. Here are some pointers to help you better
understand what to expect in terms of product yields and life cycles.
Here is a brief explanation to how yields are determined.
A) Toner and Ink cartridges are determined by a percentage of coverage. This
is usually 5%. a page with a 5% coverage area is the equivalent to a short business
letter. Any more than this, will reduce your page yield.
B) You will find your page yield drop significantly as you add more solid black
areas in your page. Eg. Bold print, pictures and logos.
C) Consumables such as a developer or a drum are usually rated by the number
of pages printed.
How to determine your product yields.
A) Depending on your machine, you can run a self-test or information page that
will show how many pages the machine has printed. Record this number and when
the you put in a new cartridge and subtract that from the number of pages when
you finish the cartridge.
B) Some machines give you the page count on the screen. Use the same method
as above.
C) If your printer does not have this capability, just put a case or two of
paper (5000-10000 sheets) next to your machine. When the cartridge has finished
its life, check to see how many pages are left in the case.
How to increase your page yields and save money!
A) Some machines have a setting called "economode". This is a great
way to save money and increase your page yield. Your machine merely puts less
toner on the page. If your machine does not have an economy mode, you can simply
turn down the density to a lighter setting.
B) Many times we have noticed customers changing their toners when the machine
says "Toner Low". This message can sometimes be misleading. Simply
pull the toner out and shake it from side to side. Usually do this will make
the message go away.
